Opa-locka Breaks Ground on New Workforce Housing Development
Opa-locka, Miami-Dade County – On Monday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Opa-locka for a new workforce housing development that aims to provide affordable housing options for local residents.
The new development, located on the corner of Ali Baba Avenue and Sharazad Boulevard, will feature 80 units of affordable housing, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. The development is designed to meet the needs of local residents who are struggling to find affordable housing options in the area.
“It will provide much-needed affordable housing options for our residents, and help to alleviate some of the housing insecurity that many people in our community are facing.”
The project is a collaboration between the City of Opa-locka, the Miami-Dade County Public Housing and Community Development Department, and the developer, South Florida-based Housing Trust Group. The development team has worked closely with the community to ensure that the project meets the needs of local residents and provides high-quality housing that is both affordable and sustainable.
“We’re proud to be a part of this project, and to help provide affordable housing options for local residents,” said Matthew Rieger, President and CEO of Housing Trust Group. “We believe that everyone deserves access to safe and affordable housing, and this development is a step in the right direction towards achieving that goal.”
The development will also provide economic benefits for the local community. It is expected to create over 100 jobs during the construction phase and will provide ongoing employment opportunities for property management and maintenance staff.
The development is scheduled to be completed in 2022, and will feature a variety of amenities for residents, including a community room, fitness center, and outdoor recreation areas. The development will also feature sustainable design elements, such as energy-efficient appliances and low-flow water fixtures, to help reduce energy and water consumption.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local officials, community leaders, and representatives from the development team. The event was held in accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines.
“This development is an important milestone for our community,” said Opa-locka Commissioner, Alvin Burke. “It represents a significant investment in our neighborhood, and will help to improve the quality of life for our residents. We’re grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this project a reality, and we look forward to its completion.”
